(Gift) What's that? / The Cave by SvenneTheBlockhead (Gift) What's that? / The Cave by SvenneTheBlockhead
So here it is, finally done.
This is easily my best work to date. I spent countless hours doing the coloring/shading, and even more on the background. This picture has more depth and detail than anything I've done before, not to mention it has much more content than my previous works.

Incase the title didn't make it clear, this is a gift three very special people, namely *Fourth-Star , *Thalassa-Star and =TaffyTale . Thanks for being amazing people and great sources of inspiration. This picture is for you.

Skye *Fourth-Star
Asin *Thalassa-Star
Tau =TaffyTale

Made on paper with a 0.7mm clutch pencil (sketch), in Paint.NET 3.5.10 (lineart) and GIMP 2.8 (coloring, shading, background).

Glad you enjoy it! :D
Even though I made this picture nearly two months ago, I still like it, despite its flaws. Maybe it's because of the time I spent on it.

Also, it's proably my fault that you missed it the first time. I posted it while you were away, and I think dA has an inbox size limit. It's very likely that my original message got deleted. Atleast you finally got it, and that's what counts ;)

Wow, sorry for the late comment here ><;

Haha I remember the sketch of it you showed me, well the finished picture sure looks really great honestly! <3 I really like that shading, it's really well done >w< The background looks awesome too, it looks kinda mysterious and scary at the same time :o This fits the chara's expressions xD I love how you drew them too, they all look great! :dummy: I can see how it took lots of time to work on, the light effects must have taken some time to get right :XD: But it sure was worth it, it does look impressive, almost like a screenshot >w< Thanks a lot for this! :glomp:

Thanks a lot!
And yeah, the background is my favorite part, too. Shading it took a really long time, mainly because my drawing method was a bit ass-backwards =P . Shading the characters was quite a chore, too. I didn't really know what shapes their heads would be. Skye was especially difficult, since I had to draw his head from the front - but hey, it worked.
I actually still like this drawing, despite the increasing amounts of visible shortcomings. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you draw too seldom.
Again, thanks a lot!
Also, if you happen to be really, really bored someday, I've uploaded the source files, along with the two previews you didn't get to see, to here: [link] . The two .pdn files can be opened with Paint.NET.

......:iconwhutplz: Whoa!
It's finished!! <3
wow wow wow!! ;www;
Geee <3
I ADOOREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE the lightning effects on the guys!! <3 it's so correct, not too bright, and still bright, and even really smooth!! <3 you have a really great sense of shading! 8D even those shadows on the ground <3 ! and when you showed the preview, that cave exit/entrance really caught my attention 8D It's simple, yeah, but the shading.. <3 ooh myyyy
The lightning effects are also correct in a way that they actually show that the light comes from a limited source (oor actually I don't know how to explain what I mean :iconholyhellplz:) aka light comes into a closed place and the light shows on only one side of them coz they're close to it and well OKAY I LOVE THAT LIGHTNING EFFECT TO BITS <33
the expressions 8D
and TAU
This is GREAT! <3
Thank you!! ;v; one of the best works I've received in a while now! >w< and wow, I'm glad you had so much fun with it! :iconheartlesslaplz: and that this thing is your 'record breaker' 8D it's kind of even an honor ;v; muwahah
and pff, its okay, you can put our current usernames in there xD it's still kind of confusing as to should we be hiding or not :O;; but well ,it's still ind of useless since I'm already commenting here and it's kind of obvious I'm one of those people ..:dummy:;;; but well dunno about Shirmpos :XD: but mine can be made into the new one if you prefer that ~

Thank you again for this work! ;v; Gusta mucho <3 ~

Thanks a lot, I'm really glad you appreciate it! :D
And yes, I'm really satisfied with the shading - especially considering I haven't done cell shading before, and barely any kind of shading. It's also my first time doing directional lighting, which I suppose is what you mean by "lighting effect".
Regarding the cave, I actually planned having a rock on the far right, and stalagmites hanging from the ceiling, but I thought it'd be too much work for something so small.
The cave entrance may be my favorite part of the drawing - simply because of the light beam. The outside is less pleasing though; the grassy hill is a bit too simplistic (I didn't really know what to draw), and the clouds are downright lazy. If I remember correctly they were the last part I drew, and by that point I just wanted to get the goddamned picture done and uploaded :XD:
Another thing I'm not too pleased with is the water. Yes, that black stuff on the nearest cave floor which looks like oil. :bleh:

Also, I've changed both of your user names to your current ones. Not that the kind of people you don't want on your account are intelligent enough to figure out your new identities, but still. If Shrimp wants me to change hers back, I'll do it immediately.
